Default Oil additive use

Another thread on oil consumption lead me to start this one. Why would the use of oil additives to control oil consumption be so universally (here, at least) frowned upon? What specifically happens that would cause such uniform opinion? I understand Chrysler says to not use them, but I am asking what exactly would happen to the engine if you did.

To me its not oil, its an additive and my engine doesn't use additives it uses engine oil. I just don't like using it it doesn't its just a personal preference.

Most additives change the oil, not usually a good thing for the longevity of an engine in my opinion. If oil needs an additive, you aren't using quality oil.

If you are trying an additive to aid in oil consumption, you are trying to put a bandage over a problem that likely needs to be addressed. Find out why it is consuming oil, don't add sludge that thickens the oil. It could reduce the lubrication qualities of the oil leading to accelerated wear in engine parts.

HAHA. Usually when the automaker tells you something like that you cant really disagree with them. They are the ones most knowledgeable about the engine they built.
