Default 2000 GC starts and shuts right off

My daughter has a 2000 Grand cherokee with 4.0. The other day at the gas station it died on her. It seems like the battery died, it will start with a jump and run about 2 seconds, and her power windows stopped working all at the same time. I am charging the battery now. Could all these problems come from a bad battery? It is acting like it is not detecting the key.

Any advice will be appreciated.

you need to make sure that the battery is charged, then you need to reset the computer by disconnecting the battery for a few minutes. it should start up and run fine when you reconnect the battery.

also
wjjeeps.com has lots of info for ya.

Yes a bad battery can, but I would check the ignition switch, more importantly the wiring to the ignition switch and the plug, I have had not one but 2 jeeps with a very similar problem to yours, check this link out.

Did the Sentry key chip get reset? I know I bought a new key that has not been programmed for my vehicle yet.. it opens the doors, starts the jeep.. but shuts down within 10 seconds...

Could the key have lost it's programming w/ the battery going out?
Just my SWAG at it.

it may sound dumb, but try unlocking the DRIVERS DOOR using the key, and then trying to start it.

I think that trick is XJ/ZJ specific.
