Default Just installed Teraflex SW4 coils - need help picking shocks

Just put on Teraflex SW4 coils on my WJ. My hub to fender measurements are measuring 23.5" in the front and about 22.0-22.5" in the rear. With that said, the MX6 shocks from my IRO 3" lift serve no purpose so I now need new shocks. I measured about 23.0" shock mount to shock mount in both the front and rear of the Jeep. Although the SW4's are 4" coils, it looks as if I netted a bit more in the front. With these measurements, would you recommend 4" or 5" shocks?

Also, do you happen to know if Napa or Monroe makes shocks for this ride height? I'm more than likely already set on shocks for the front (mono-tubes), but need to find a cheap shock for the rear as the bank is quickly running out.

Any insight would be of great help. Thanks.

I would not buy shocks based on whether somebody says they are for a 4" or 5" lift. You already measured the static shock length. Now subtract the amount of uptravel (including an inch or two for bumpstop compression) and this is the required collapsed shock length. Estimate the amount of down travel as 2x the uptravel and you know the required extended shock length. Now go to the manufacturers catalog and find a shock that fits the requirement. For example:

Personally, I would not cut corners with cheap shocks. You already have a lot invested; might as well finish the job right.

The problem is, 99% of the aftermarket shocks out there are designed for the weight of your average 4x4 SUV or truck, which is 1000-1500 lbs. MORE than a ZJ. Therefore if you just go grab a Bilstein shock off the shelf it's going to ride like s*it on your Jeep. That's why when I look for shocks for my Jeeps, I always look for the softest ones you can buy. These usually end up being just about right. Skyjacker Hydro shocks are fairly soft and nice. I hear the DT 3000s are soft too.

After the YJ...I never want a Jeep that rides like a tobacco wagon again. Ever.

The Bilsteins are available with different rates. I've run the Rancho RS9000 adjustable shocks for years now and really like the ability to dial them in depending on the occasion.
