Default 5.9L transmission problems !

Hi @ all !
Iīve a 98, ZJ with the 5.9L and hte 46RE transmission.
3 weeks ago the cooling line tub IN the ratiator broke. After changing the whole radiator and flushing the tranny and engine everything was ok.
I also changed the filter in the transmission.

2 weeks later hte problem occoured:
when the engine / transmission is warm/hot itīs like a clutch doesn īt get the grip - no movement.
The mechanic - a specialist in us-auto.trannies - took it apart, changed the clutches and the bands and also cleaned an oil pump.
But the problem still exists!

Please, help !

sounds like a torque converter issue.

if I shut off the engine and wait a few seconds it moves again...shifts in 2nd ....then slips like if youīd push a clutch pedal.
If I turn the key off - wait - it moves again ...

The intervals have to be longer as more often I try this...

The mechanic said itīd be an elektrical problem, some valve, pump sensor,....

any other sugestions ?

I assumed that when the mechanic took your tranny apart that he inspected the inside of the case and all parts that came out.

Can your mechanic run a diagnostic on the PCM this may (or may not) give you a hint of what it may be.

I recently got a code for a speed sensor on my 98. It did show up as a code but I noticed as a late **** point between 2nd and third.

The reason I went with first with the torque converter is because I had a similar problem on my 68 camero. The stators in the torque converter got trashed somehow and every time I stopped you would have to put it N or it would die. After a time it started to slip like said yours was. When we tor it apart the mechanical pump had broke the gear.

I hope you figure this out with little trouble. Is it hard to get parts for Jeeps where your at?

I forgot about the valve body. If something has gotten inside or you've got a week spring due to heat or fluid movement it could case this problem. Trans-go and b&m make a valve body rebuild kit. Sluchboxes are fickle creatures. Best of luck!!

tell him to replace the governor pressure solenoid and transducer. Did you bypass the radiator all togeather? If not you need to. install an aftermarket tranny cooler. I bypass every single jeep and dodge truck that come into my repair facility (aamco transmission). Those cooler lines in the radiator clog up and will burn up a dodge transmission in a heartbeat!

I got a new radiator, so the cooling line shouldnīt be the problem ..?
But Iīll tell him your other advice!

I thought about an aftermarked cooler instead of the OEM, but I was not shure if this not in addition but instead wouldībe ok at low speed or in the traffic jam when goinīto the city....

I would still bypass your radiator all togeather. I see failures way too much to trust them. An auxillary cooler will cool it down about 250% more effectively.
