Default FlowMaster 50 series with no cat???

A friend of mine just had the 50 series FlowMaster taken off of his ZJ and offered me a pretty good deal on it. Another person had suggested taking the cat off my ZJ when installing the muffler for a little more umpf. Would there be any adverse effects?? I live in Kansas, so emissions laws are not really a big deal. Will having my cat removed make the exhaust any louder than if I only added the muffler??

Thanks a lot guys,
Mike

it will be so loud that you will set off alarms when you drive by or on start up.

you may also loose a bit on the low end because of the less restriction.

i have a 70 with no cat(couldnt afford it yet) and i will get the carsound soon.

I would think that this would cause problems with the OBD II system....

Taking out the cat will definitely mess things up. The computer won't know what's going on, and will cause the engine to run like crap.

As far as mufflers go, I just ordered a dynomax super-flo for my 5.2.

There's a great sound comparison using a 5.2 Durango at:

Mine's a 97. hmm. You also running a 5.2?

The way I understand it, the problems come in because there's an o2 sensor before the cat, and another after. If the computer doesn't read what it expects, it tries to adjust to get the correct emissions and louses things up.
