Default coolant temp guage no worky

my coolant temp guage has never worked on my 93 ZJ. I changed the sending unit twice to no avail. Here is my question, I took the guage cluster apart and checked everthing. I am getting power to the guage and the ground is good, also i am recieving a signal from the sending unit but the guage still says cold all the time. I took the guage itsself out of the cluster and checked resistance their I have 75 ohms(? i think,if i read it correctly) of resistance at the capacitor. the oil preasure guage has the same cap and the resistance at that cap is 40 ohms(? again if I read id it correctly). To me that says that the guage itsself is bad. What do oyu all think....opinions please! Is this a common problem, if so are the guages expensive? The dealers around here are idiots so asking them is like asking the jeep! thanks for the help.

Also does anyone make a-pillar guage pods for Grands?

I had the same problem last year. Like yourself, I replaced the temp sending unit twice and also the cooling sender. You need to make sure you specify that you want the sending unit for the gauge not the idiot light, and also only buy this from the dealer... pepboys/autozone will sell you the idiot light one and tell you its for the gauge. That said, it still never worked for me. I went through the same checks that you did and was baffled. I think that it must be something burnt in the ECU. I replaced mine with an electric that was attached infront of the cluster. It was pretty easy to do and the wireing was simple. If you go this route keep the sending unit that you have in the block already, because the ones that come with the aftermarket gauges are to long (at least the autometer and faze ones).

Stupid question, but how about the thermostat?
Does the engine warm up?
If you ground the wire at the sensor, does the gauge climb all the way to hot?
