How much will it cost to have an 8.8 put in with ABS. I want the ABS since i'm not the only one who drives my car, and it makes it a little bit safer.
I will need the housing to start, strip it and weld ZJ bracketry onto it, and which one should i get that has the most spline axles? I think 31 spline is whats best for the 8.8, at least thats how they work with the Mustang GT. Also, what posi units are good, or should i just stick to the stock ford trac-loc until i blow that out. I have 3.73 gears right now, but i would like to switch to somewhere between 4.10 and 4.56. |

Yank one from a mid to late 90s Ford Explorer or Mercury Mountaineer. I know 96+ had discs and 31 spline, dunno about before that. They came with 3.55, 3.73, and 4.10 gears so you could find one with 4.10s already. Dunno how good the stock LSD is, but I know one person with an Auburn LSD in his Mustang and he seems to like it. I guess he was blowing up the stock one pretty quick.

yeah i like the idea of getting 4.10's in there already. but the d30 up front can only accept 4.11, the next matching d30/8.8 gear is the 4.56, which i think is too much gear for me since I only run 28-30" tires.
can you run 4.11 front and 4.10 rear w/out any prob's, i am using the 249 right now. |

also, can i use my stillen rotors with this axle, or are the ford brakes better anyways? I assume that i could now upgrade to Mustang Cobra rear brakes...
would that be worth it? If you know me from JU i dont go off-road, but having stuff that could is peace of mind. I use the jeep as my d/d and snow mobile (tahoe) during the winter. |

Yeah cut all the wires and rip the junk out. The ABS on the ZJs is prolly the worse system I have every seen.
Gears you could run would be 3.07, 3.55, 3.73, 4.10, 4.56 and 4.88. I may have missed one or two. The 8.8 can go up to 5.13, but the D30 can't. For stock tires, 3.55 or 3.73. Running 4.10s would just be stupid.... unless you have plans for bigger tires. That being said... you don't off road. So why bother swapping the axle? It seems pointless to me. The D35 will have no problems with stock tires and street driving.

Maybe do the 8.8 if your breaking shafts cause your in 2WD a lot or something. I remember your into the street thing. You can just use your D35 calipers so you dont have to rebleed the brake system. The Stillens will work as well, the parts are interchangable, including the e-brake. And I agree with Nate about ripping out the ABS. The stock calipers/brake system dont really have enough power to lock the wheels up anyways, but no ABS helps. Dunno if its possile to keep ABS. Everyone that does the 8.8 swap does it strength offroading, where you dont want ABS so it doesnt matter.

yea if your on the street all the time, there is no point in a 8.8 swap that is a lot of waisted money

well...i dont just dont think the d44a will stand up to full power 100 to 150 shots off the line
i'm not plannin on ***** footin around with my next Jeep i'm getting, its going to be a 5.9, and i already know people who have blown 3 of them in 5 years. I know most of you here off-road and i bet running an atlas or a 4:1 t-case isnt easy on a rear end either. about the ABS, i would like to keep it, if later down the road i dont want it, then i can always take it out, but keeping straight when braking on iced roads in tahoe is a good thing, even if it takes longer to stop. |
