well sunday night my g/f and i decided that it would be a good time for me to teach her how to drive in the mud in my ZJ... so i take her out to some little clay pit and let her have at it, well she finishes up and i take the wheel, driving through some trails and some sloppy black mud then i hit the pavement to go to the gas station and get a drink... About 1/4 mile from the gas station, she says "smell that" and i smell rubber burning and an odd noise under the hood, all of a sudden, THUNK, slap and crack.. and i lose p/s my a/c got hot and the alternator gauge dropped from 14 to 9.. so theres the belt i figure.. hammer down and get to the gas station, pop the hood and found the belt all in once piece.. i go to slip it back on and.....
the upper idler pulley on my 4.0 fried the bearing and there's no way im driving it the 15 miles home like that.. the pulley was dissintegrated.. 82.50 for a tow bill, 40 bucks for an idler pulley and a new belt, and the next day im good to go.. anyone else ever have an idler pulley burn up on them? my jeep has 147k on the odometer.. |

The idler pulley on my buddy's 5.9 burned up around 100k. Easy fix, but a nasty break to have to endure.
