Go to this link http://www.wjjeeps.com/console.htm and follow the steps to remove the center console, access the shifter lightning strip, and replace the transformer.

Like I mentioned in my previous post, splicing the wires that connects the transformer to the lightning strip, and replacing just the transformer will make this repair project fairly simple.

Keep in mind that the lightning strip nor the transformer are sold separately. These are components of the whole shifter assembly which is sold as a unit. So you will have to go to the nearest Junk Yard to pick and pull this parts, if you don't want to spend over $300 dollars for a new shifter assembly.

Last but not least, I own a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo (WJ). So if you own a different model the repair procedure or components might be different.

I hope my information could be useful to you and of any help.

Regards,

Joe

Joe, Just saw this and started having the same issues on my '99 WJ. Question, I have the console off. DO you know what voltages are supposed to be running through to the light strip? (I am getting just under 12v.) Where is the transformer? My wires seem to lead under the dash. Is it under / behind the dash?

Another rookie!
