Wish your child "Fair winds and following seas for me"! I hope they enjoy their stint in the Navy and learn career skills that serve them well in life. I've been out since '05 and wouldn't earn the living that I do if it hadn't been for my years with Uncle Sam. Also, if your Cherokee Chief ever needs a new home I'm happy to oblige!
I'll pass it on for sure. He just got home from deployment last week after his 4 year hitch and headed back to school to finish his degree. He will consider going back in through OCS when he's done in 3 yrs. He had so many awesome experiences, and that's just the ones he told us about. The Navy did a great job getting him squared away, and we couldn't be more proud.

And thank YOU for your service!

The Chief is staying put for now, but I'll remember your interest.

I just wanted to put an update out here in public and give you guys and gals an idea of what you will find when researching international shipping. Here goes:

I found the part that Hans needs and bought it for $37.10 from Brandywine used truck parts which is next door to their used auto parts in Brandywine, MD. I had company visit from out of state this past weekend so it took a few days to clean the part up. It is in nice condition with two very minor blemishes but overall in much better condition than any interior panel in my ZJ. Plastic is in good shape, no cracks, no sun fade.

Today I attempted to box it up for shipping so that I could get a quote. I figured it would be best to get a price before any party gets hit with an obscene sum of money. The US Postal Service rejected the box. I was told that its measurements (they have a screwy system that uses girth) are too big. I took the box back to work and cut it down. I measured it. I went online and found their formula and it would still be outside the allowed range.

Hmmm....time to call Pakmail and get quotes. They took the measurments of Height, Length, Width, and weight. The quoted me $395 to ship it to the Netherlands!!! A package that is roughly 11 lbs and whose biggest measurement is 37 inches!

I went back to the Post Office and hoped to get a hookup from my favorite employee. She's an older lady that is personable and somewhat of a flirt. She's hooked me up in the past. As luck would have it she was there! USPS price for business mail to The Netherlands? Less than $63. Wow.

It pays to shop around and also to make the box as small as possible. It also pays to get to know and schmooze with the people in the Post Office. I have to send Hans pictures, see if he still wants the panel, and fill out a customs form if it is going out to him. I just need my new Droid phone to have a signal and all will be good.

If we really can get him his Orvis panel for $100 it will be a good thing.
