i got an msd upgrade package awhile back from kolak and am happy with it. cured my stuttering idle anyway, and seemed to open it up midrange-wise...

ask nick at kolak@aol.com about his msd ignition upgrade package...it's good stuff. ....i know nothing about jacobs though...

Stay away from the jacobs stuff it just doesn't last over time. It does give you a nice power and mileage increase. warranty sucks 1 yr. then dies. The best thing they make is their wires ~45 and lower resistance than just about everyone. Go with the components nick says can't go wrong with them.

Here is what I think the best recipe for ignition. MSD coil, Jacobs Wires, Splitfire or irdium plugs, blue streak (from napa) cap and rotor with brass terminals.

Low cost and good bang for the buck.

Blue streak is what jacobs recommends.

I've been running the Jacobs OmniPak for over 50K miles now. Absolutley no problems.

Ever get it wet?
Ihad two fry 1 for getting wet and the other who knows. The 3rd the coil was leaking oil

Warranty sucks for spending that much money imo

Yep, It's been wet. But it's completely epoxy sealed so it wouldn't really matter anyway!!

Sounds like you had some kind of other problem.

No other problem except that nice epoxy gets old and doesn't fit quite so well after awhile and the end where the wires go in there is nothing but that piece of plastic.

If I had another one I would mount it as high as possible and protect it from the heat and water.

I've got all MSD on mine and I'm completely happy with it. I've got the 6a, coil, and 8.5mm wires. After having Jacobs on my suburban, I don't think I'll ever use them again. I've heard of too many people having problems with them. Just my 2 cents.

Is the MSD 6A just a bolt on/plug in unit? What exactly does it do?

None of the MSD's, or aftermarker units for that matter are a plug in unless you get a adapter thats if they sell if for the grand cherokee. Its generally pretty easy to hookup though, only a few wires. You might consider the MSD 6 off road. Its about $60 more but its all full of epoxy to be waterproof and vibration resistant. It also has two different modes (multispark or one long duration spark) all dependent on the rpms.

Unfortunately, they do not sell the "plug 'n play" adapter for the GC, so you have to get the universal adapter. It is not that hard to install though.

My MSD 6A is mounted in the windshield cowl area and it seems to be happy there. Also, I used Taylor Vertex 8mm wires from Summit Racing and found them to be excellent. Very inexpensive compared to the MSD which were ridiculously overpriced.

MSD 6 off-road (its fully sealed) with its rev-limiter. Also an MSD coil with a good set of spark wires and plugs would be kick ***.

You might try (www.jegs.com) they have some very useful products.
I am glad I did. Prices are reasonable and quality seems first rate!
Worked for me, might for you too!
