well i picked up a hp30 from a pick and pull for $50. just had new ball joints put in and 4.56s. i also put in new bushings for the uca's.
while the axle was out i replaced the motor mounts. i couldn't imagine doing that with the axle in. it was a bear to reach a few of the bolts with no axle. the passenger side mount fell out in two pieces when i took all the bolts out. it now idles so much smoother.
took about 6-7 hours to get everything swapped over. the new ball joints are nice. the steering seems so much tighter.
the front driveline is now tucked up nice and safe
no pics as you guys know what an axle looks like. i did paint it all up though. :D

Cool deal Nate. Just got a question for ya. When I put my HP D30 in there were no holes for the Anti-sway bar links on teh axle. I had to drill them. Did you do the same?

Nate--
I got the same axle from an 88 wagoneer. Just had the ARB done with 4.88's. Tonight I was trying to remove the lower ball joints and the upper arm bushings. No luck. Seems to be a ***** and a half. Have the 3n1 tool. Just would not budge.

By 3 in 1 do you mean the C-press with adaptors? Sometimes even that doesn't work so you will have to beat it with a 5lb hammer. Just be sure to get a jack stand as close to the joint as possible.

Nate: Gotta love those $50 axles. Did you do the swap for clearance, strength, vibrations, or all the above?

chris the shop that did my ball joints had to cut and torch one of them out. the were a bear. i did not have a ball joint press and now i am glad they did it. they put in spicer ball joints at less cost that i could even buy them at.
mike i put it in for strength. i was regearing anyway so i thought might as well upgrade. i have the warn hub kit so vibes is not a problem.
