bulbs aren't burnt out. Whats the deal here... Sometimes the VIC is fine, other times it's not. Anyone ever experience this? I'm puzzled.

What year? 1993 models use the aw4 trans if the nssis dirty it will trip the VIC. Go back and replace every bulb, go to the manual and replace with exactly what bulbs it says to use. You can have a bulb that fits and works but will trip the VIC also.

I had the same problem for a long time. I replaced all the bulbs, but I did forget about the license plate ones. Even though that wasn't the problem. One dealership told me it might be because of the trailer wiring module, could have gone bad from corrosion in the reciever plug. Wasn't the case either! Turned out the next dealership discovered that the wrong bulbs had been used when the last dealership replaced them. That should cover all cases which could be causing the problem.

Take a look at the Lamp Outage Module (LOM). I've had to repair burned out wiring traces on the printed circuit board twice. They use a resistor network to sense for an abnormal current draw to indicate a blown fuse. Part of the network resembles a piece of bent bare wire. Sometimes it comes into contact with the PCB and overheats it. This can lead to the wiring traces burning out.

i got this before. open up your hatch and to the left of it there is a little drug hiding spot (hehe). fairly easy to take off. now check and see if the plug is fully in. that controls the rear lights. mine was out of the socket for some reason, and the same thing happened. try that to see if that works.

I personly have managed to miss this problem in both of my zj's. But, there are many causes. I think the best way to fix this is to replace all of the bulbs in the rear. Make sure to get the correct ones and all new. Other than that, the only thing I can suggest is to check JU. Damn I hate telling someone to go there. But if you check the archives you can find it. Don't bother with the most recent archive, because you couldn't get anyone to answer jack on that one, go back about two or three.

Changing the bulbs to standard DC replacements is a good suggestion.

The circuit that checks the bulbs is a very low voltage system. Just having dirty contacts is enough to block the low voltage EMF that checks the filaments.

Chances are you recently replaced a bulb.

Remove the bulb and with very fine emery paper, sand the contacts of the bulb and the socket. This may work.

If your VIC is indicating intermittenly bulb outage, sounds as if your have a loose connection or some wire corrosion going on.

I just had the problem on my 94 V8, and the VIC would only display the error when I turned the headlights on. That may explain your "intermittency". It ended up being a side marker lamp in the rear.

I have the same message flashing on my screen. I went back and looked at the bulbs in the center brake light, I think there are 3, and the middle one is out. I just had to get someone to push on the brake for me-Hope this keeps you from having to buy all new bulbs.-SR
