How the heck do you get to plug #6 (one in the very front blocked partially by the alternator)?!?! Never had a 4.0L I6 GC til now. Reminiscing about the 5.9L V8 Wagoneer days. Anyway, first 5 plugs and wires went under 15 minutes. I gave up on #6 after 30 minutes (getting dark). Luckily I didn't "have" to do the tune-up, just wanted to do it after the K&N FIPK install last night. 5 down, 1 to go.

Sorry, not next to the alternator but the a/c compressor.

Guess you figured something out by now, but the answer is:

use a swivel (universal) joint and 6" extension on your ratchet.

I went through the same thing when I did it the first time. Started taking things all apart before I said "Let me try this."

Sorry I meant the boot itself.

to remove the boot i used a set of pliers and pulled the little F'er off. My engine was cooled down though. If its still hot, you can dampen a rag and lap it over the heater piping so u dont burn urself and do the same. If that doesn't work for you, i moved me left hand in the gap between the AC compressor to the left and used my right to get more leverage on the boot to pull it off.

I just did this 2 days ago, so i feel ur pain.
