I am thinking about ordering a ARB bumper but, In the past I have heard from reading post on the JU board the the ARB bumper for the WJ caused overheating problems.....has this problem been dealt with? If it hasn't I was thinking of maybe grill guard instead, if this is the case with would any of you recommend Manik or Westin? Are there any others?

I have installed a Manik on a 97ish Suburban for a customer and it seemed a nice piece. Everything fit like it was supposed to and I think it was powdercoated not painted. It was just for looks like all those types are.

You'll also need to think about if you want a winch or not...

To my knowledge there are NO grill guards with a winch mount.

I have a ZJ and installed a ARB, as someday I will add a winch. I do not see how it could prevent so much airflow that it would cause an overheat. When you are trail riding Grands in general get pretty hot, but you are driving quiet slow, so air inflow is minimal anyway. Some people recommend hood vents. I prefer to open my hood when I waiting for other vehicles to get unstuck or scout....

ARB has dealt with the issue of overheating. It turns out that the WJ's radiator and cooling system is marginal. When the bull bar was originaly made it restriced the air flow just enough to contribute to overheating problems in hot climates. These problems were also associated to taller tires and additional weight also. They have made an adujstment and the ARB Bull Bar problem is no longer an issue. The cooling system is still marginal.

ARB or Trailready are the only bumpers on the market that we would use here at NAGCA, at this time.

Has anyone seen the Kennesaw Mountain Bumper it sells for less than 400 and they have one for both the ZJ and WJ with winch mounts. I have never seen one except a picture they sent me with one on a ZJ. I would attach the pic if someone could tell me how. I favor the Trailready but there seems to be better deals out there on the ARB. I have a WJ and have the same issue with trying to decide. I would ultimately like a custom arrangement to allow moving the winch to the rear when needed. I do not like the idea of carrying a winch on a front receiver (none made yet for WJ anyway) or inside. Trailready or someone should make a nice looking bumper with removable winch to place on the rear hitch when needed. To me thats a winch bumper. :cool: [/img]
