So some of you guys out there have been trying to get your vic to work with your freshly swapped in 231. I know I know...most of you guys out there will say its a waste of time, but for the rest of us there are two solutions. You can purchase the correct 4-wire switch from the dealer for well over $200 or you can just adjust your 249 switch to accomodate the 231 internals. So this is what I did since I had a spare 249 switch sitting around. I wasnt sure it would work, but thought I would try it anyways since I had nothing to lose.
Here is what I did:

I started by cutting down the pickup(Which is solid) down to about a .5cm from the first thread(see below photo).

Then I rounded it the best that I could just like it had been before.

Then I installed it into the TC and threaded it in until it would just read everything perfectly.

Then I measured the gap and filled it with washers to get the correct spacing(in order to seal it you will need to put an O ring under the last washer).
My gap measured around 1cm, but it will vary based on how much you previously cut off.

When you get the gap right it should come up on the VIC as follows:
2wd=Rear two tires light up
4 PT=All wheels light up& PT light comes on
Neutral=All lights are off (if two rear wheels light up just thread out the switch about a half-full turn)
4 Low= All wheels light up & PT light comes on(this was the only problem I had. instead of the 4 low light it lit the part time again)

*NOTE*My measurments are just estimates so they may not work perfectly for your application, but you will be able to adjust your gap with washers to accomodate for the prefect position, and try not to cut the pick-up below .5cm. Also this was used with the basic VIC not the Digital VIC that some models came with, and I am not sure if it will work the same with the digital one. One more thing, you also need to switch the plug behind the VIC from the red plug to the black plug(this is covered in another thread).

Hopefully this helps some people save a few bucks and some frustration. :D
For the people who want to run down to the dealer and buy the actual switch for the 231 here is the part# 56006901

Thanks! I hope it works for you also if you decide to do it. If you or anyone else has any questions feel free to send me a message. I know my directions are a little vague.
