How many have had the piston crack or break on your WJ? I just bought a 99 with a broken #2 piston, i'm hoping the cylinder wall is not damaged. I havent seen it yet.. pick up tomorrow.

Have a cylinder mic, hone, ring gapper and compressor enroute from a bud, i'll check for gouges and egging of the wall, if the block is salvageable i might just pick up an overhaul kit and put it back together.

Looking for feedback from those who had the issue, were you able to save the block without a bore?

Thought there would be some feedback here... seems pretty common as there are several threads on JF.

Anyway, got the Jeep home and gave it a bath. I am gonna wait till my XJ is fully parted and gone before i tear this down to inspect the cylinder.

What you gonna build an Overland WJ now! :D I'm gonna miss your XJ! This looks like a good purchase though.

The XJ is pretty much a shell now.. with my axles and suspension that i'll be swapping over to the ZJ.

This WJ was an impulse buy.. and was cheap. Originally planned to swap in a 96 motor with 60K i'v had stored in garage for 10 years. Come to find out the blocks are cast different.

Oh well sometimes you get bored and build different toys. I had heard of them being cast different making it a problem.
