I just finished swapping my 249 for a 231.

After swapping input shafts, and before installing, I made sure I was able to engage all gears. Now, I have the case mounted up, and I can get 2hi and 4hi...I can't get N or 4lo.

Also, I'm using the linkage tab from the 231. However, the linkage rod looks to be about 2" too short, using all the adjustment available. I've seen this problem on a mallcrawlin thread, but can anyone tell me a good amount to have the welder chop off? I'd rather not pay $160 for the Novak shifter.

Thanks

Hmmm. The 231 linkage rod is a bit longer than the 249 but not that much. See below. 231 rod is on the bottom. Maybe the torque rod is not oriented correctly?

if u got a tap and die u can cut it urself put threads on both pieces and buy an adjuster sleeve from a lowes or home depot and make it adjustable real easy i had to do this to my old 97 tj when i did the teraflex t case linkage relocation kit that wasn't designed for a ax15. if u need for help i'm sure i can give u better instructions

i had a very similar problem.. there are a few different tabs that connect to the end of that. i made my own to work for a few but went junk yard diving and nabbed as different ones. the position of the rectangle cut out on the tab varies and i found one that worked. 2 cents
