hey all,

i was looking at different rock sliders on various websites and thought maybe i could just build my own out of square tubing...

What size square tubing would be recommended and what would be the best way to mount them to my frame, without welding them to the frame. i have looked and cant really find pics of the different ways to mount them to the frame.

P.s. i have a 94 zj limited

thanks!

I will eventually build my own as my lift kit won't allow for the mounting location of most of the ones I could buy.

I plan on using 2x3 square tubing for mine. On your lateral bars that attach to the unibody, You could weld a plate onto the end of your frame attachment bars, drill holes through it, and bolt to the unibody.

Personally, I will probably form an L bracket that hugs the unibody, and stitch weld it to strenghen the "frame" as my lift didn't have that feature (gotta love Claytons). I will then weld my sliders to it.

I built my own, used 2x6 square tube 3/16 thick. I cut the rocker out and then welded them in,gained probly 2 Inchs of clearance on the sides. Also gives me some place to put a HiLift( ZJs suck for jacking on LOL).

X2 on the high lift jack...another reason I need to do this.

I hope i'm notthread jacking, but i would like to see some pics of what you did. I'm also trying to draw up some plans for rocksliders!

I havent gptten any pics yet, but will post when I do.
The rockers dont mount to the frame at all, to put these on you need to cut away part of the rocker(front where it is rolled/curved under), then hold the 2x6 up with the jack and roll the back side of the rocker underwith a BFH. weld it all in. I didnt cut the fenders just went to the edge of them. Still have to figure out what I am doing with the brace that goes into the fram on the back as it sticks down say probly 2" from the bottom of the rocker, I think I will cut it off with the plasma and then cap it.
here is a pirate link that shows yu kinda how to cut, but remember the a ZJ is a fair bit different, the posts go all th way to the bottom of the rocker.

Do you have a picture of your custom rocker panel? I saw an episode in 5K ZJ -Trucks powerblock where they recessed a 2x4 tubing in the rocker panel but also cut a part of it. I really like having the clearance and I think I like this option.
