I've got a quick question. Since the day I bought my ZJ, like, 3 months ago, it's had a belt squeal. It'll go away when you squirt some belt dressing on it, but only until you start it again, especially if it sits for awhile. Would it be the belt itself, or should I look for anything else?

i had the same thing with my CJ-7....even with a new belt...it fixed itself eventually...it could be a pully as well...i know that you said,
"It'll go away when you squirt some belt dressing on it, but only until you start it again."...but it could be a pully that is getting lubed on the top surface...you can get a small wire brush and while the engine is running CAREFULLY place the brush on top of the belt and let the bristles clean off any junk that may be stuck on the belt for it to cause a noise....to the same for the other side as well..JUST BE CAREFULL!!!

a safer way would me to remove the belt and inspect it...and the pulleys..give them a wiggle and check for any play..

Check the belt tensioner. Use a wrench on the pulley bolt to spring the tensioner away from the belt and see if it returns. I didnt even have a squealing problem and my tensioner was bad and a buddy happened to find it. If you need a new one you can get them on amazon.com for around $50. I got it thru there as it was cheaper than my garage price at the local auto parts stores and it was the same Gates part.

Mine has been squealing for about a year so the other day I changed the belt and no more squeal.
