posting all my cage build pics here to help out anyone who is planning on making a cage and doesn't feel like searching too much to find pics of ZJ cages inside.

not AMAZINGLY happy with the A pillar, but it works

C pillar, there is like no room to mount plates underneath, so what I did, if you remember I have 1/4 plate where my coils are for my coil traps, perfect spot for tube.

how it connects underneath, the tube inside is welded to a plate, 4 bolts go through to underneath, another plate and tighten the bolts

very nice doc of a cage build. but i'm wondering can you still have the back seats if you do it this way or no? and if you ever have to dismantle the dash it looks like you can't get some of it off anymore. but other then that it's a great design and i like
all the supports your putting in.
thanks for the pics.

a cleamer way to come around the dash would be to use plate on the outside of the dash, similar to poison spyder's design. you should have brought the braces behind the seats together for triangulation. it would also look cleaner if you put some bends in the bars runiin from the halo to the floor by the rear fenderwel. just my opinion all in all nice job, have you tested it yet? ;-)

Since there was this thread about cage in a ZJ, I just add pictures of mine. It was built close to FIA regulations using mild steel 2" OD/0.1" wall tubes for the main bars and 1.57" OD/0.1" wall tubes for the rest.

looks good man. i think an X above the driver and passenger head would provide more strength then the two parallels. and yeah the X behind the seats should have met so theres no weak point in between them. also some door bars would offer more protection as well as front to back support because as of right now it appears that you dont have much. gussets will help you with this as well but the door bars act like a bigger gusset. ive built and done alot of reasearch on baja bugs and race trucks so please if its different for jeeps dont take it personally but i beleive in doing cages right :D

I'm not sure if you made your comments about my cage, tody, but if you did: Thanks! The roof bars were made this way, because I'm 6 ft 6" tall- no way have a bar running above the helmet :)
The Xs behind the seats do not meet on purpose since the weld would be quite difficult and because of the complex "knot" the tubes could be weakened.
You're absolutely right about the door bars. I was not sure if I would be able to get in the car if we'd welded in Xs as door protection. I know now that I can get in even with an X easily, so this will be changed.
The cage is welded to the body at the A pillar, too.
The cage was built a professional company, specialized in cages for touring cars such as BMW 3,5,6 series. For them it was the first time to have a Jeep :)

i was mostly referring to the original poster but yours looks alot better than his. i know the X behind the bumper is perfect one of the tubes had to be intersected so i agree with the build and the way your c pillar angles forward and ties into the b pillar it gives alot of front to back rigidity. the door bars look great and unless legit racing is what your after then youll be fine. i suggested it to the original poster because he doesnt have much at all for front to back bracing.
