I figure pictures speak louder than words
cavaliers1323 12-12-2008, 03:59 PM what dimensions are the rectangular tube??
Toby42 12-22-2008, 08:06 AM No answer for him?! ;)
I'm thinking 'bout doing this, too... but do you think 1/4" plate steel would be strong enough if you just cut out the rocker and weld two long plates back in its place on each side? Like this (view from front):
\_[]____[]_/
or
\_ (Frame) _/
So each rocker would be like an open 'L'... do you see it?
what dimensions are the rectangular tube??
2 x 4 x 3/16
Toby, I don't think you'd find anything at the top, outer (from your drawings perspective,) to attach to that would be string enough, no.
cavaliers1323 12-22-2008, 02:51 PM is the square tubing used 2x2x3/16"?

So have you 'used' your sliders much yet? Do they hold up pretty good?
As for the \_ _/, the only place to do it would be to weld it to the sheetmetal, I guess... to, in essence, 'replace' the rocker panel with steel plating.
cavaliers1323 12-25-2008, 05:22 AM Do you think 1/8" would be sufficient?

Yes, they held up great. They extend just past the door handles and held up to rocks and worked great to pivot around the trees on the tight trails up here in the northwest.
I don't think you'd be able to weld your rocker replacement to the sheet metal like you're talking about here though. It sounds structurally sketchy.
Cavaliers: 1/8 would be sufficient for most things yes. But if you're keeping the ZJ full-bodied and you'll be coming down on the rocks like these things and all their weight can, I think 1/8 will dent and bend.
jsteves 01-01-2009, 06:06 AM is the square tubing used 2x2x3/16"?
I am pretty sure Max used 4x4. I don't know what wall thinkness.
Toby42 01-22-2009, 07:22 PM How much did ur guys' stuff weigh? I was really planning on doing this, but then started thinking about weight, so was considering KOR sliders. w/ all the crap I plan on adding on, I'm really gonna hafta start taking weight into consideration.
bws97zj 05-08-2011, 05:31 PM Mine are KOR sliders maybe 80LBS 2x4 with 2x2 kick outs where you have tube the KOR Have 2x2 square stock I drilled it it and its .120 wall
frozenZJ 05-09-2011, 05:46 AM I used 2" by 3" and it worked out great. I was thinking of the regular sliders idea but you loose ground clearance that way. This was you will actually gain some over the stock rockers. I've got mine detailed out in my build thread.
biggoofy 05-23-2012, 08:40 AM I made mine from 2x4 .25 wall and 2x2 .25 wall and they were about 80 lbs a piece. I'll post pics later I have beaten them to death with 0 issues or bending.
heres a thread from when i did mine
