Pictures? Suggestions? Problems, etc?

I'm considering chopping off the lower end of the bumper, like many of you have done, to give that extra few degrees of approach angle.

I bought a Sawzall about 2 months ago, and haven't used it the way I've wanted to. Gotta get my money's worth! Ha.

This is kinda obvious and I feel stupid for saying it but my suggestion would be to take the facia off to trim it. It not only makes it easier but safer, for the Jeeps sake and yours. Take your time draw/measure/check and recheck everything before you cut. As for a pic...

It's easiest if you take the front bumper off to do the task. Take some masking tape and align an edge of the tape where you want to cut. Some use a dremel with a circular saw blade, sawzall, etc. I scored mine repeatedly with a box knife till I got through. Even a hack saw can get it done for you. Clean up the cut line and slap the bumper back on. It can look almost "stock" if you take your time.

Here's what mine looked like when I had it on:

no need to take bumper off..just draw a line witha sharpie..and dremel it..wear gloves cuz the dremel will make melted bumper go on your hand..its easy..and makes jeep look a lot betta

there is a line ON the bumper you can follow..just look, and cut..its simple

ZJmaxx... what are those other pieces laying there on the ground? One of them almost looks like the "skid plate" for the front end.

Looks like he pulled off the junk plastic "skid".... It's more of a splash guard that anything else. Here's mine.

I just drew a line with painters tape and cut away. I also burned my finger on the damn plastic, so be careful.

I'll probably make a line, and go from there. I can see the molding "line" that it makes, naturally, but would still probably prefer to have a little extra something to make sure I don't cut it all wacked out. Ha.

So I went out last night, after work, and did the cutting. Took maybe 10 minutes once the bumper was off. Sawzall's are magical. Ha ha. I'll probably go back either tonight or tomorrow after work and sand the edges down, but for me... it works. My wife isn't too fond of it, but... what does she know? Ha ha.

Is it more of a cylinder that you are talking about? If so, I know it's needed... just can't think of what it's called. Has something to do with some sort of overflow or filter or something. It's early... ha.

If this is what you are refering to it is the fuel evap canistor, its needed otherwise your Idle will be s#!tty but you can relocate it up under the hood to get it out of the way.http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i89/97zjguy/AFrontbumper051.jpg

i like this but i also like my foglights. and it looks good on all of yours but on a 96 it might not look so good because i dont have the same lines in front like you guys do.

JeepinJoesZJ

you could just trim the fender side of the bumper, instead of horizontally do it vertically it won't throw off the body lines.

i dont understand

Instead of trimming the section we 93-95ers trim, trim the area highlighted circled in red, you can follow the fender line and make it look "stock"

zacharykro
04-22-2007, 09:02 AM
it already follows the fender line

JeepinJoesZJ
04-22-2007, 09:12 AM
Yes, but it is curved, instead of having it curve you can cut it to make it straight. It will still follow the fender line but it will no longer curve toward the tire.

i see. what does this do for me?

JeepinJoesZJ
04-22-2007, 09:23 AM
Ok... It allows you to keep your stock placement on fog lights, keeps your current bumper lines, and gives the bumper more clearance from the tires when you are turning. I'm not sure how much or how little it will help, since I haven't done this myself, but if you want to trim your bumper, keep the fogs and the lower half of the bumper, I think this is your closest option.

Yeah... mine fell off. Who needs them anyway.

I do kinda wish I had an ARB though, or something for the front. The no bumper deal is starting to get old for me.

where it mounts to the bottom it was all wavy and looked like crap so i cut that up and removed the little bracket that held it and got one or more inches of the bumper and it looks good

This is how mine came out. You can see how much I was hitting on the piece I cut off!
I took a piece of sheet metal and made a shield for the bottom of the radiator that is exposed, then just painted it black.

just paint it black.. anything will look better than the yellow

The problem is not the paint. It's that I cant paint over the yellow. The yellow paint was rolled on and is flaking off fast. So if I paint over the yellow my black paint will also flake off. I have to take parts off then take a wire grinder and clean it basicly down to the factory primer or bare metal in most cases then re-prime it, and paint it black. So basicly I need a nice day when I can take the axels out from under my Jeep and grind it all down to repaint it. The only problem is I only want to do it once so I'm replacing everything thats worn as I go. I'm buying all my CA bushings then making my CA's black. I'll buy new ball joints and ect... when I do my axels. my stearing is next on the painting block. I've got a V8 stearing setup that I'm buying for $50, I'll paitn it black and through it in. The springs would be easy to do but I'm to lazy to go to "Crappy" Tire and rent a spring compressor to take them out and paint them.
