Okay well heres the deal.

It's looking like my state schools arent accepting my applications. I'm at a local CC and while I like it, I honestly just dont feel at home in MN. I've got my own place through work, and I'm sick of paying rent to be in a state, going to a school that doesnt really cater to the life I WANT to live.

I've grown up here for most of my life, but at points my dad's work had us in Bend/Three sisters area of OR, Denver CO, and Athens GA.

The south just isnt my thing, so its out of the question. My grandfather lives in TX and loves it, but me...I just cant adapt to the culture coming from MN. I would love to live in UT and go to school there, except I'm not mormon. I have friends who are mormon, and I just dont feel comfortable with the way their parents look at me for being baptist.

I cant even explain how much I like CO. I would have a hard time getting into Boulder, but can get into CO Springs probably. I dont have the money to just fork over out of state though, so I would need to live there for a year before applying to state school. Does anyone know what terms are for going to a Community College while being an out of state resident are?

Anyways, back on topic. If I get another denial letter from an MN state school, I plan on leaving. I've thought about the marines, navy, army, etc. I love my country, but I just dont think the confines of government service is where I see myself as an adult. I want to move somewhere I will live when I'm done with school, hopefully find my wife, and start my family there. I'm going to be a Construction Management major, so if that career is prevelent in your area, let me know.

Basically what I'm getting at, is I want to move to CO. I want to see what you guys that live there's take on it is. I camp, wheel, fish, hike, snowboard, kayak, mountain bike basically try to live outside. I love the snow we get in MN, HATE the - degree weather. I love warm weather and the lakes here (but not the humidity), and so far CO (lived there for a year when I was young) catered to everything I enjoyed doing. I can do without the lakes though, its not a neccesity.

Here is the information I'm looking for. Anyone have local experience with CC's in colorado? Any Colleges other than state I should look into? What kind of crap do they use on the roads (salt, etc.) basically, EVERYTHING you either really like, or really dislike about your state.

Also, property taxes, income taxes, etc. Financial stuff thats important to know. What towns are good to live in, and not. Where are the good rivers, wheeling spots, mountains, etc.

I've done some boarding out at breckenridge, etc. but basically I just want everyone's opinions. Also, what kind of lifestyle can be had living in CO for a college student if their income is around 1200 a month. I've got buddies who want to rent.

And if anyone here lives out east, VT, ME area, west, MT, WY, etc, anywhere that it sounds like I could be interested in, let me know. I plan on sending out about 10-15 applications to schools all over the place this summer (early app. for next year) and see what I can get into.

I'm mormon too....that's what I hate about a lot of people here in Utah, they really are so judgemental! I'm sorry you feel that way and I wish it were different. It bothers me A LOT that this is how a lot of Utahn's act

Well, honestly the whole mormon issue is why I'm scared away from UT.

A buddy of mine went there and was Jewish. He wears his star of david necklace with a lot of pride, and felt very uncomfortable at school in UT. He experienced things like going into class, asking people questions, and them turning their back to him. He had problems renting houses from mormon owners, etc. He said this was pretty common, and that the catholic, and some lutheran kids had the same trouble. Needless to say they all transfered home after 2 years.

Trust me guys, I get along really well my friends who are mormon, and I have seen them all cringe at those stories. They hate hearing that mormons have treated people we know like that. I have friends that are gay, and the things I've heard people at MY OWN CHURCH say to them makes me wish it was legal to hit people with bats. We believe in the one true god, thats whats important to me, **** society and their religious lines. I'll invite a muslim, christian, athiest, jew, etc. into my house for dinner any night.

Anyways, back to the topic of me wanting to move to colorado.

and angelous, I've seriously considered the military route.

If anyone has experience, good or bad, please post. This is more of a logical decision to me than an emotional one. Im an independent so while I have political views, its hard to say they swing to one side or another.

So, Like... no one really responded to your question did they?! LOL... anyway, I'm from CO and love it... except for all the Californians moving out here. Now, all you Cali-ites, hear me out - I'm sure ya'll (there's some south for ya) are cool, being 'wheelers and all, but the Californians moving out here are moving here and trying to turn US into THEM. Closing jeep trails, closing motorcycle trails, race tracks, and voting Democrats into office... But, bro, while it lasts - CO is the place to be. Great weather, all 4 seasons, some of the best trails in the U.S. Right now, it really can't be beat.

But too many more californians, and I'm going to have to move to Wyoming or something.

Oh, and Colorado Springs is the bomb. I live in Pueblo and love it, too - not as rushed as the springs and easier to get to the mountains and wheel all day long... And there's a great church in the Springs too (a couple, I hear)...

Lemme know if you got any more questions...

Phaze,

I'm a Commander in the Navy and I'm the Executive Officer at Texas A&M NROTC. If you have questions, ask away.

I resided in Bend, Oregon, so I cant stand how some previous californians moved in and changed a lot of the state. I have nothing against californians, just some bad experiences while living in Bend that put a sour taste in my mouth.

Thanks for responding to the question, I'm still thinking about doing this, so the more info I can pull together the better.

Hunter, why did you choose the navy over other branches of service?

What would you say they do differently/better/worse than other branches. I want to serve my country but havent decided if military service is the route I want to go yet.

Phaze you need to get a pair!! If you base your decisions on religion or how you are may be judged your going to end up disappointed. If you are really interested in CO then go, but don't live your life based on someone else's opinion it's your not there's. One last thing! you really need to stop being so prejudice!!

My cousin signed up for the Air Force just so he could go to dental school. All he has to do is give them 4 years after he graduates and they pay for everything. his housing, his insurance, his school, etc. If I could deal with a chain of command I probably would do it as well.

Thanks Shadow. I was asking for input on CO, not advice on my masculinity, and the apparent lack there of. In regards to my comments about californians, you guys are great, I love your state. I had a few bad experiences with new home owners from CA, and was simply agreeing with Toby that its frusterating.

I'm glad you put this line in there.

You misunderstand!!

You are 20 years old and your whole life ahead of you. Don't let a few negative experiences or comments sway you from doing what you want. You already stated you "want" to go to Colorado, so go. Every place in the world (well most every place) holds something of interest to someone. I grew up in Montana as a ranchers son and I still love the state and some day I will go back, there's just so much out there to see and experience. I Have been stationed all over the US and have had the privilege of traveling around the the world so I could give you my opinion. I just don't think what I think has much to do with the experiences you may have. Good luck with your dilemma!! I hope everything works out for you!

Phaze, CO is the sh*&. I lived there for about 6 years and moved away when my fiance needed to be closer to her family. we always say we are definately moving back there as soon as we get a chance. There are plenty of hot woman in Colorado it just depends where you are.

there are also a lot of people from california (Los Angeles) but you don't have to be around them if you don't like their attitudes. do what i did and don't hang around the rich college brats and you'll be fine.

As for the comunity college pricing, i went to cc in 2001 and it was about $4000 an semester for out of staters.

If you live in the mid to southern part of the state along the front range (i.e. CO. Springs or Pueblo), you can find great wheeling with a short drive west into the mountains. There's some killer trails up in the San Luis Valley (Alamosa), one that goes up near Blanca Peak (14,000+) and stops at around 11,000 ft next to Lake Como w/ a couple abonded log cabins around... soooo sweet. I live in Pueblo next to PMI - 20,000 acres of play area, but w/ the development it's getting cut into piece by piece. Great place to ride dirt bikes and has a MX track, too. OK to go out in your ZJ and play around, but like I said earlier - it's one of those places the californians (the bad kind  ) are eating up slowly but surely. There's great fishing if you like, tons of hunting areas, plus, if you want to take a weekend and go off for a couple days, you can go deeper into the mountains and find myriads of camping/wheeling spots...

Look me up if you move here, eh? I'll show ya 'round!

On the topic of developments, us Minnesotans our eating our own state parks. The BWCA is such a great place to camp, but all the surrounding area's are developing, so its just going to end up as another over used state forest unless the DNR can keep use limited.

You still thinking about Colorado???
If you like outdoors, wheeling, camping, hunting, fishing, mountain biking or whatever. Plus want to be close to some great boarding. Grand Junction is awesome. Plus we have a small state college right here. Mesa State.

About 3-4 hours from Moab, 2 Hours from Aspen, Great wheeling right outside of town.

I love it here and wouldnt move for anything.
