I just picked up my beltronics RX55 (radar roys first pick for detectors under 250 bucks)

Popped her in last night and all I've got to say is wow. It picked up a cop shooting radar a full mile (in town/hilly area) late last night. I like several features of this detector over my old Passport X50 (which was stolen).

My favorite so far though, is that when on its "dark" setting (very low light emittance) it reads the kind of band it is picking up. For instance, last night it beeped twice, and then when the signal got stronger the warning system announced "Ka Band". [smilie=bal_cool.gif]

I dont speed. Period. I do however like to know when I am being watched/radared, and this thing sure has already proven itself. I'm hardwiring it in today.

Does anyone here run an effective scanner? I dont want to "listen in" on cops in my area, but the entertainment while driving of would be pretty cool. I'm interested in knowing what the Paramedic and fire dept. guys have going on. I've got buddies in both of those fields locally and it'd be great to know what their up to. [smilie=1dance.gif]

I heard the same thing about AZ...haven't looked into though. I usually only do 5-10 over. Which is the usually buffer zone.

anybody know any more about this?

My RX55 picked up another 2 cops today. This thing is incredible. Got 'er wired in above my rear view mirror.

If anyone has a radar detector and wants me to rig up and sell hardwire kits I was thinking about it today, and I could easily start making and selling them. Its not too complicated if you have a slight knowledge of electronics.

The thing that could screw most people up is the fuse and plug in on the cars.

How does this not qualify for general discussion?

For example:

If I had labeled it "What radar detector do you use in your JEEP?" would that qualify it?

:dontknow:

I run a Valentine 1 in my tahoe and acura. The newer one in the Ac is great, unbilevable reception, but al ittle prone to picking up automatic doors on store fronts and other stuff. The Radar guided cruise control on Infinitiy FX's sets it off, and the 3rd Brake lite in Trailblazers and Envoys drives it insane. But its never fails to miss a cop. Its saved me a few times. the Bastard wasnt cheap, but i wouldn't buy any other radar detector. With the directional arrows, you know where the signal is coming from, how many signals its recieving, and it tells you the band. This makes it easire to spot a speed trap. So i know on the NY state Throughway, Ka is the electric roadsigns, and K is the real cops who usually work in pairs. Radar detectors are a valuable tool for approacing an accident too, you know well ahead of time that there is something coming.

Hmm...here I know its a cop if its Ka. My detector has never gone off for a road sign...

K is usually the bag checkers in super target and kmart.

On my commute there are a couple of monstrocities some refer to as houses. There is one that has a pretty intense security system that my radar detector flags with 5 bars of X band!

I think mine is retarded. It wont pick up cops, but it will pick up the radar signs a mile away. Also when I get near the hospital which is 2 blocks form my work, if I go through there parking lot it says..." Warning train is approaching. " The 1st time I heard I looked down the street and saw a train and thought this is sweet. But then I realized it does it everything I get near the ER sign. What a piece!!!

that may just be a signal the hospital or train crossing at the hospital is reading.

The detector cant distinguish
