I have been tossing the idea around about having a local transmission shop swap out my Automatic Transmission with the 5 speed that could be found in the 1993 4.0 zjs. The 5 speed that was used was the AX-15 I believe. This transmission was also offered in yj and tjs. The transmission was originally used for Dana 300 and the 231 T-case. My question is, will this transmission fit in my 94 zj with a 5.2L and the 249 T-case? Can use any AX-15 tranny? Would a Tranny shop take on this job?
I know this is a topic that has been discussed, but I had difficult finding any information on this topic in the search? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I don't know if the bell housing bolt pattern is the same from the 5.2 to the 4.0 but the transmission-to-transfer case bolt pattern is the same for the three New Process/New Venture cases used in these Jeeps.

This is Awesome! I've been trying to weigh the options of either just rebuilding my tranny ($1600-$2000) or just penny up the extra g and swap for a manual. Does anyone out there think this is practial to have a shop do it?

Putting an standard an a grand in Cali is no bueno. the stock tranny is controld by the PCM if it dose not receive a signal from the govener pressure sensor and shift silonoid it throws a dtc and the check engine light comes on. And a cel causes a automatic fail for emissions testing In California (even though those sensors have nothing to do with emission control, convenient isn't it) and as far as I know there is no way to fool the computer. I have heard of someone using a PCM from a dodge 1500 with a 5.2 and standard transmission but couldn't find any info to confirme if it worked or not. Also sourcing the pedal assembly's are I little tough to find, but pedals out of and xj can be modified to work.
