Anyone see any problem with bolting some angle iron onto the body for rocker panels?

everything? those are the pieces of sh!t that they sell on ebay. most good rockers mount to the frame rails and the pinch seam to take away some of the force when they get hit. think about it, if you slam your rockers, you're going to get a big dent, if you slam your rockers while they're reinforced with angle iron, you're going to get the same amount of dent, its just going to be spread out over an area. my opinion, do it right, buy some real rocker guards, or fab them up.

if you could get them the right shape, it would not be too much of a problem. but the ZJ rockers have alot of curves to them

TJ rocker guards are basically just a piece of 1/4" plte bolted along the bottom of the rocker

Hmm...."the pieces of **** sold on ebay" - nope, not familiar with those.

I was talking of fabbing some up out of angle iron, not purchasing something off ebay. Thinking of possibly bolting angle iron on, with a piece of tube iron welded to the outside of the angle iron.

you want something that will stick out a little bit, that way you can push yourself around trees, and you will just be able to get a little bit more sliding power on rocks if they stick out a little. if you are going to buy some get kevin's they are very good.

well, when you say angle iron, this is what came to mind http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/RockRatz-Rock-Sliders-Jeep-Grand-Cherokee-ZJ-TR1-G_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33650QQihZ004QQitemZ1 40001835696QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWD1V
if you plan on doing something like that, then like i said, don't bother, but if you've got some other ideas about it, like everyone else said, you're going to have to get the angles right, and you def want it to extend outside the body a little bit.

1/4" steel is pleanty thick to spread the load out. I'd like to see them with tubes that stick out too & some cross rails back to the frame to counter ballance the tubes that stick out.
