I've been contemplating this recently, waiting to buy a CB till I decide. Just some of my thoughts.

Where the ash tray is in the center dash, would require some cutting
In the overhead console.
The usual choice of between the driver seat and center console
If I get real adventureous, maybe I'll see if I can wire the display into the VIC or overhead display....

We cant really do that because we have that computer panel there. I picked up a smaller cb and I think i will mount it where NRV95ZJ did. That seems like the best place to put it out of the way. However I would imagine that the only problem is that it is too far back and would make the screen hard to read.

it is a little hard to read, but must you switch channels all the time????? [smilie=bal_ask.gif]

If you're using a small radio like that, for trail only use, grab some velcro, and stick it to the dash. If you're looking to leave it there or mount it somewhere for good, I'd look under the dash, next to the shifter. It's easy to run power cable from battery to firewall to radio, or just use a cigar lighter jack, and also the coax can run easily under there as well.

Here is how I mounted mine, of course you are going to have to drill holes in the dash to do it this way. I also have a external speaker mounted behind the overhead computer console with a volume control knob. The most important thing you can do for you CB radio is get an SWR meter and tune your antenna. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT!!!!! if you don't tune your antenna properly then you can ruin your radio and also not be able to transmit very far. The type of radio i have is a Uniden PC68XL.

i removed my VIC in my 94 and moved my heater controls down where the VIC was and put my CB in where the heater controls were. it fits very well. the VIC didn't tell you **** on the older grands so it was useless. i don't need a light to tell me when i am in 4 low.

its a normal size, it just looks small in the picture, i actually have a larger one now. to get it to go through the body i had to cut a 7/8" hole :-| and then i filled it up with RTV to keep moisture out.

I have the small radio shack one and the best place that I found was on the drivers side of the center counsel in between it and the drivers seat. The mic slips right down by your thigh and the controls are right where you need them all of the time. The internal speaker works really well (better than you may think).

Haha. I agree. That stupid VIC isnt worth a crap! All mine ever does is blink and bug the hell out of me. I have come so close to just tearing it out. I might have to go with your idea just so I can get rid of that thing. Plus I'll finally get a CB which I have been wanting to get for a while now.

so, does your lid have to be open to use your cb then? i dont think i would like that if it does.
