i got the seal already and was then told its recommended to replace the bearing and you would also need this clip. then i was told if your doing the seal you have to replace the bearing and you need that clip.
what parts do i need?
thanks

You need to remove the cover letting it break open at the bottom first to drain. Remove the bolt in the carrier that retains the long pin that the differential gears turn on. Then you can remove the axle retainer clip and slide out the axle. the wheel and rotor and anything in the way as far as brakes also need to be out of the way.
Replace the bearing if neccesary inspect the rollers for galling and axle for wear. Its not a terrible idea to do it depending upon mileage it may be the prudent thing to do. Put some oil on the seal so it won't run dry upon start up (bearing too). Use the proper rear end lube I recomend synthetic 75w140. It used on the aluminum 44 and if its limited slip you will need to add the friction modifier upon refill. Use RTV on the cover. If you decide to change the bearing you may need a slide hammer. While you are in there change the seal on the other side as you already have access to the retaining clip its not much more work. Both seals probably have been in there for the same time so its not long before the other will leak. Kinda like halogen headlights one isnt far behind the other.

Good write up for a ZJ but wont work on the WJ. Bearing and seal get pressed on from what I remember. Be careful with the seal, pinches easy.

Bull Dog you are correct the WJ bearing is pressed on the axle shaft.
When mattj mentioned clip I assumed and we all know about assuming, haha.
Mattj, pull the shafts by unbolting retainer at axle housing end and take them to a machine shop unless you have access to a press or a torch.
I have cut quite a few bearings off but you have to be real good with a oxy-acetylene torch. Machine shop is your best bet.
