I just had my BB lift installed by LI Jeepers this weekend and I need some help regarding tire size and back spacing.

I searched on lots of sites and i get mixed replies to which tire size will fit. Some say that 31inch will fit with no rubbing, others say it will rub, other say it just wont fit. Am i better going with a 30inch AT tire so i will know it will fit and not worry bout rubbing or should i try for the 31?

Also i would like the tires to stick out a lil bit from the fenders. What backspacing would i use?

And for tires im either gonna use Pep Boy tires which are Cooper, or if i can get some more money either Pirelli Scorpions or BFG AT!

Help me out.

Thanks
Dan

I'm assuming you have a ZJ, you need to clarify this.
31's will rub when turning at full lock - Width of the tire is more of a problem than height. If you step up to a different rim with less backspacing, you can run 31's. The general consensus for optimal BS on the ZJ is around 4.5". Go for the 31's, you'll like them. I've been running them on my ZJ with a 3" lift and thought they were fine. You shouldn't have a problem with stuffing the tire, but you may want to check out your bumpstops just in case. HTH!

I actually looked at the Pep Boys line of tires. They seemed to be pretty good tires, although I have no personal experience with them. The only reason I didn't get them is because the largest size I could find was 31, and I wanted to step up to a 32. I just recently bought some Regals, never heard of them before, but they look like an old BFG. I'm only running them for offroad tires, so I can't say how they perform on a daily driver. Good Luck!

Although I haven't put Coopers on a Jeep, I have them on my Eagle Talon and they wear well, have good traction and are smooth. Don't know if their bigger tires are as good.

I'm running Dunlop Radial Rover A/T on the WJ. Just over $120 each, mounted, balanced, at a local shop. Very quiet, semi-aggresive tread.

Have Michelin something or other on the XJ. These are rock hard and loose traction in rain and snow. Last forever, but I did a 180 in Galena on a cold rainy afternoon. Some like em, but not me. The XJ came with Goodyear Wranglers and they wore out in a year and were loud.

I've run Cooper tires on two previous Ford 4X4 pickups and they were very good tires. I highly recommend them and will get new Coopers on my ZJ when the crappy Michelins are shot. Just for comparison, I also like the Goodyear MT/S tires as well. Cooper my not have the most brand name recognition but they DO make a great tire.

I think somewhere in the past 3 years and 5 months he probably already purchased his tires and wheels. (post was dated Jun. 4, 2002)
