MikeyM 06-02-2002, 07:36 AM I agree. About 5-6K on Redline.
Mike
Yep, every 5k with Mobil 1.
RufftyTuffty 06-03-2002, 11:46 AM 7,500m
smitty 06-03-2002, 12:29 PM 7500
fredcrn 06-03-2002, 09:11 PM Agree with 7500, but Amsoil claims that by sending off a sample to be tested, as long as there isn't any contamination, you should just be able to change your filter and keep going. Spoke with a guy who has a tranny shop here who also is an Amsoil dealer, who claims to have 60,000 plus with just filter changes and top ups.
Fred
I'll probably be doing 7000 with filter changes at 3500 or so, havent been running synth that long.
98ZJ NH 06-04-2002, 10:26 AM What about a synthetic blend like Quaker State 4x4 oil? I have never used anything other then regular oil before. I just bought my 98 jeep a couple months ago and have read a lot on this and JU about synthetics. I went with the synthetic blend 4x4 oil, but am not sure if that would allow me to go over the 3000 mile mark. What advice do you have for the next oil change. Also, I used Fram filter this time, but just read a report saying they are complete junk. What type of filters do you recommend?
TIA
Wolfman 06-05-2002, 07:03 PM I've used Amsoil in my other 2 trucks and usually changed them around 10,000 miles. Don't know whether or not to go the suggested 25,000 miles with a filter change after 12,500 miles. Either way it saves you money. Looking into swapping out the front/rear gear oils, transfer case fluid & transmission fluid with Amsoil. Dealer has to cross reference the transfer case fluid being that it's for the 247 case--takes a special type instead of regular gear oil.
THANKS FOR THE IMPUT GUYS !!

I use Mobil 1 synthetic and a Mobil 1 filter. From what I've read the "acceptable filters" are Mobil 1, Purolator Pure 1 and Wix brand filter, in no particular order. Since I can find the Mobil brand easier than the others, that's what I've gone with.
Plus I've heard that Vettes, Porsches and other high performance vehicles come with Mobil 1 from the factory. Don't know if that is just really good marketing on Mobil's part but if it works for them it works for me.
I drive less than 12K miles a year so the $35 it costs me in parts to change my oil is a no brainer (5k intervals).
[Edit: I used to use Fram as well but the cost difference, although significant (~$2 vs. $11), in the long run it doesn't seem that much. I haven't heard much about blends but if you are going to synthetics, then use the "pure breed" version. Amsoil, Mobil, Redline, etc...]
