: Lets see some rear shock extension pics!
chadjans 05-23-2002, 11:37 PM Hey guys: I am planning n running a set of rear shock extensions. Although not willing to pay for Tera's extensions. Let alone run any of their products. I know John V., Nate and Sandy are running a custom fab setup so lets see some pics of these!!

RumblinZJ 05-24-2002, 08:10 AM I have the Tera lowers for the TJ for sale. They are modified to fit my 94 V8 perfectly. They have 3/8" of material removed from the bottom so the horizontal holes line up, and the vertical hole is drilled on through completely. All you need to do is drill a ~3/8" hole through the bottom of the shock mount and bolt them in. I will include the Grade 8 hardware for the vertical hole. They mount up ROCK solid. I took them off because I got different shocks. Make me an offer if you are interested.
papromike 05-24-2002, 09:08 AM How bout doing it right, and cutting of those stupid factory mounts and welding on some higher clearance ones?..
Those stock shock mounts, just hang down too low, begging to get hit by big rocks..

KevinsOffroad.com 05-25-2002, 12:28 AM Chad:
Two suggestions:
1) Go with a Bassett setup. LOTS of clearance, LOTS of flex
2) Cut old brackets off and weld tabs onto the axle for each shock, ala Cannonball. Premade tabs are a few bucks each at Four Wheeler Supply on Washington and will save you fabbing them. I also have a catalog from King Supply on it's way to me...they sell them too.
chadjans 05-25-2002, 08:31 PM Kevin I like the ideas. Although I have some concerns of fabbing a trianlulated setup like Basset's before fabbing a long arm. And I am really just looking for a quick fix before the 8.8 or 9 inch swap.
And do you have a web link for King Supply?

Pic didn't work for me! What exactly did you do? I really don't want to buy new shocks but I might have to because mine limit flex too much. I have the Tera relocators but didn't drill the hole out yet on the stock mount. Does anyone know how far up I have to drill on the mount for a '97?
Thanks
chadjans 06-03-2002, 05:22 PM Here is what I have come up with so far: http://www.imagestation.com/album/pictures.html?id=4291760269
It seems like it should work pretty ood, and in the process beefing up the stock mounts by doubling the thickness is some areas. We will see how they turn out later this week.

whodat 06-03-2002, 06:21 PM That's pretty similar to mine. I used 3/16"x2" bar, and heated/bent it to exactly wrap around the lower shock mount. I have one 1/4-20 grade-8 bolt up through the bottom, plus a 1/2" grade-8 bolt through the original shock mount hole with an extra shock sleeve in the middle. I drilled the new mount holes 2" higher than stock, and used one washer on each side of the shock to make up for the thickness of the factory mount.

Edit-I also chamfered all the edges, and radiused the top to avoid hitting the shock can.
chadjans 06-03-2002, 08:19 PM Gary, That is what I am working on now. Seems to be comming together nicely. The 1/4 bolt that you used on the bottom, did you use the factory hole in the orginial mount?

mmyers 06-04-2002, 12:38 PM I used a piece of angle that attaches to the two front bolts for the fuel tank skid. Drill a hole where you want it (aft a little works well, so the shock doesn't hit the coil bucket), and weld a bolt that is the same size as the bushing, once the bolt is through the hole.
All it is doing is making the same stud that the factory is using, and lowering the whole mess down.
If someone wants to host my pic, I'll send it.
Super easy, super effective.

I saw Mike's relocation this weekend and it turned out really nice.
Mike email me the pics at work and I'll post them.
